Left to Right to Back to Front

Hello my brothers and sisters of this wonderful universe. Just thought I'd give a bit of an update. Making a bit of headway with the project! It has in fact morphed into my Dissertation as well though so it's gonna have to be done before May now! It's starting to sound like nothing I've every really done before so...good or bad thing, I don't know, but it's certainly a challenging project. Just to reiterate it's a spatial music project so expect lots of reverby panny 3d shite flying around inside your head!
Peace and Love,
Garry

Pretentious Rant Featuring the Word "Motif"

So what does everyone think of the new design? Ripped from the Realisms website I made 2 years ago but never put online. Working on "themes" for the House of Leaves project, different "motifs" for significant element. Events, characters, places etc... I decided to just play them on piano to make them as adaptable as possible but its proving difficult to represent evil houses with little piano melodies! In other news.... there's nothing new so here's something older!

Flying around your head

Started messing with HRTF (that's "Head Related Transfer Function") plug ins today in preparation for my spatial composition project. Basically They use models of the human head and fancy maths (fascinating stuff I might add) to create cues that make you're brain thinking sounds are coming from above, below, behind , and in front as well as left and right when listening on Stereo Headphones. You might have heard it in modern video games as well the famous "virtual barbershop" video on youtube: Virtual Haircut.
Now the whole spatial composition thing is two things. An academic, my final year project for a level 8 music technology degree, and Realisms project to make a "concept album" based on Mark Z Danielewski's "House of Leaves" (a smashing and deeply disturbing read!).

Why did I choose to marry the two? Well I've garnered a bit of a passion for Computer music and digital signal processing, acoustics and 3d audio over the last couple of years, so it seemed a good idea to do a project based on it. Also House of Leaves is a book about Space, Spatial distortion, how big things should be...but aren't.In simple terms it's about a house that's bigger on the inside than on the outside(but it's so much more than that really!) So a spatial based composition based on the book seems like a good idea!
Well I'll be putting up how it's going over the next few months and maybe even a few previews of what it sounds like so keep checking back!
Peace and Cosmic Vibes to you all,

Red Weed and Martians

Well I'm listening to war of the worlds again! What a fantastic album! I'd recommend it to anyone (and it has nothing to do with Tom Cruise! Though Phil Lynott is in it!)
Trying to get to grips with some concept albums to inform an academic project I'm working on at the moment....more cool stuff on that later....

Peace and Love,
Garry

Realisms

Hello, this is the first post. I hope you feel privileged.
I might just put up some ramblings about making my music so you can see the tedious and often unhealthy late night compositional habits I partake in. Demos and snippets that might never see proper release may end up here so you can rip them off the blog and sell them on dodgy cassettes to all your friends for big cash so stay tuned!
Also check out this lovely lady and artist at her blog: http://stripyribbons.blogspot.com/ (she's really lovely!)

Peace and Groovy vibes to all of you
Garry (Realisms)
